He went overboard last weekend as the ship was headed for Hamburg, Germany. According to family members on the ship, CCTV footage confirmed the man overboard incident, although there have been conflicting reports about whether it was deliberate or accidental.

What the Cruise Line Said

The cruise line confirmed it in a statement. “A passenger onboard MSC Euribia went overboard on as the ship was sailing to Hamburg. This was reported to the authorities,” MSC Cruises said. “Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will refrain from disclosing any additional information.”

It said police recently boarded the ship to begin an official investigation when it docked in Southampton. Jones’ wife, who was not on the cruise, criticized the cruise line for a lack of communication.

Several Overboard Incidents in Recent Weeks

The cruise line has suffered a spate of man overboard incidents recently. There have been six in the past five months and the third of 2024. This includes the death of an elderly US passenger who fell into the water while the MSC World Europa was in port at Valetta, Malta.

MSC Euribia was sailing week-long seven-night Northern Europe cruises from several departure ports, including Hamburg, Southampton, and Rotterdam.
