Two Passengers Drown at Celebration Key

Two American passengers drowned in separate incidents at Carnival Cruise Line’s new private destination, Celebration Key. One guest from Mardi Gras was involved in an accident at the lagoon, while another from Carnival Elation drowned while swimming off the beach.

Carnival confirmed that lifeguards and medical personnel responded immediately in both situations, but the guests could not be revived. Authorities in the Bahamas are investigating the circumstances surrounding each incident.

Royal Caribbean has named astronaut and STEM advocate Kellie Gerardi as the godmother of its new Icon-class ship, Star of the Seas. She replaces singer Diana Ross, who withdrew from the role due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

Gerardi will officially christen the vessel during a naming ceremony at Port Canaveral on August 20. The line saild her work promoting science education as a reflection of the ship’s forward-looking design.

Disney Cruise Line to Exit Australia After 2025-26 Season

Disney Cruise Line announced that it will withdraw from the Australian and New Zealand market after its 2025–26 season. The Disney Wonder, currently sailing the region, will be redeployed to other destinations.

The company said the move reflects evolving deployment priorities but did not rule out a future return. The announcement comes as other lines have also scaled back operations in the Australian cruise market.

Passenger Sues Royal Caribbean Over Waterslide Accident

A passenger has filed a lawsuit against Royal Caribbean following an waterslide incident aboard Icon of the Seas. During a ride on the “Frightening Bolt” waterslide, a panel of acrylic glass broke, leaving the guest with significant injuries.

The suit alleges negligence in maintenance and safety oversight of the slide. Royal Caribbean closed the attraction while investigations and repairs take place.

Passenger Falls Into Ocean at CocoCay, Quickly Rescued

A passenger visiting Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, fell from the pier into the ocean. Witnesses said the guest was attempting to take photos of Star of the Seas when the accident occurred.

Crew members from both Star of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas responded immediately, pulling the passenger from the water. The line reported that the individual was not seriously injured.
