An Irish firefighter on vacation last week sprang into action when a cruise ship passenger went overboard while the ship was docking in Honduras.
Rory Foy responded swiftly and has been praised as a hero for his quick thinking and bravery in diving into the water to save the passenger.

He “sprang into action” to grab one of the lifebuoys which had just been thrown into the water to assist the passenger.
After diving in, he swam to the passenger with the life buoy and brought the passenger safely to shore. The passenger was reported to be in good condition despite the fall.
It happened as the Royal Caribbean cruise ship was docking during a Western Caribbean sailing.
The Dublin Fire Brigade revealed the incident in social media posts on X, Facebook, and Instagram. Rory Foy is a Dublin firefighter and paramedic who was on vacation then. He is also a swift water rescue technician, the Dublin Fire Brigade said in the posts.
“Rory sprang into action after a person fell overboard when a cruise ship was docking in port. Rory, who is a swift water rescue technician, took a lifebuoy thrown by a bystander and swam to the person with it. Here’s hoping the rest of the holiday is quieter,” the post said.

The firefighter was labeled a hero in comments on social media. “Heroes never take a break, well done that man.
Deserves a medal,” one user said, while another wrote: Job Description – Superhero. Amazing Rory. Hope you got to enjoy your holiday.
